Abstract
Pathogenetic, diagnostic and prognostic value of seromucoids (orosomucoids, acid glycoproteins) is not yet established. The aim of this work was to investigate modern view onto seromucoids’ role in pathological processes and estimate their changes in dependence of adaptational processes and body weight. We held a literature review of Pubmed database and Ukrainian sources and also investigated seromucoids’ level in 487 patients with internal diseases. According to the literature data, seromucoids’ role is being studied even now; they suppress expression of proinflammatory genes and pathological metabolic pathways, decrease production of reactive oxygen species, protect adipose tissue from inflammation and metabolic dysfunction. Seromucoids are immune regulators, nanomediums, cardioprotectors, carriers of various drugs, whereas mechanisms of these processes are not finally established. According to own research, seromucoids’ level depended of adaptational processes, being maximal in stress-reaction. Seromucoids also were increased in patients with overweight or obesity, correlating with prominence of fatty liver. Investigation of seromucoids as a target for pharmaceutical correction and study of their influence on pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, especially taking into account genetic aspects, is a promising field of future research.
