Abstract

The American Heart Association Presidency Guidelines 2023: Cardio-Reno-Metabolic Health Overview provides guidance on the definition, staging, prognostic paradigm, and integrated approaches to care for patients with cardio-renometabolic syndrome (CRMS), and details a multicomponent vision for effective and equitable promotion of cardio-reno-metabolic health (CRMH) in the population. In addition, the document takes into account social determinants of health in the models of care for CRMS and reduces the fragmentation of medical care, promotes the introduction of interdisciplinary approaches to patient-centred care. The main goal of the document is to create a framework for holistic and equitable improvement of the health of patients with CRMS worldwide. The review is presented in two parts. The first part presents the basic definitions of CRMS, the main guidelines of the Presidium Recommendation, and the structure of the new CRMS concept of classification by stage with their description. The second part of the review includes: identification of factors that increase the likelihood of progression of the stages of CRMS, screening for CRMS in early childhood and adulthood, approaches to prevention and treatment of CRMS according to its stages.
