Abstract
Diagnosis and treatment of cancer therapy-related cardiovascular complications is a frequent problem that affects the quality of life of patients with cancer and requires complex approaches. Questions about the continuation/restoration of anticancer treatment are accepted by multidisciplinary teams, and are based on clinical data, the results of examinations and risk assessment. In cancer patients there is a high risk of developing heart failure, triggered by the cardiotoxicity of some anti-cancer medications, in particular anthracyclines, and checkpoint inhibitors enhance the development of myocarditis, which is based on immune processes. A significant role in the occurrence of complications is played by the so-called tumor-associated thrombosis, which can be both arterial (myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke) and venous (pulmonary embolism, peripheral thrombosis). The treatment and prevention of these thromboses are a common clinical problem, since oncological pathology might predict a high risk of bleeding due to сhemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia. They can also be caused by malignant neoplasms or metastases. Patients undergoing cardiotoxic chemotherapy or chest irradiation have a several times higher risk of adverse events, such as coronary artery disease, chronic heart failure. They should undergo long term follow-up and control of the cardiovascular system.
