Abstract

There are more than 450 million people on the planet who suffer from mental illness according to the World Health Organization. Statistics prove that every 7th person in Western Europe suffers from a mental disorder. World Mental Health Day has been celebrated annually on October 10 since 1992, at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health. Mental Health Day aims to draw attention to the prevalence of depressive disorders, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, drug addiction, epilepsy, mental retardation, drug use and suicide rates worldwide. The aim of World Mental Health Day is to help people with mental disorders, disseminate information about modern and effective treatments, prevention, rehabilitation and psychosocial adaptation. Mental health is the dynamic set of mental properties of the individual that provide a state of mental well-being. The article presents and substantiates the definition of human mental health. Modern scientific approaches to the study of mental health are indicated.
