Abstract
Long-term and developing obstructive jaundice leads to hepatic dysfunction due to biliary stasis and cholangitis which finally results in hepatic failure being the main cause of post-surgical death. The aim of this study is to evaluate clinical efficiency of the product Gepatox (L-ornithine-L-aspartate) during complex therapy of obstructive jaundice and signs of hepatic encephalopathy. The study was carried out at surgical department of the Regional Clinical Hospital in Zhytomyr. It included 32 patients with the signs of obstructive jaundice of various etiology. Usage of 10-20 g of L-ornithine-L-aspartate (Gepatox) causes significant improvement of cognitive functions in the main group and decreases the level of toxic hepatic encephalopathy.
