Abstract

The aim was to study the endothelial function of capillaries in young patients on the background of substitutive suppressive hormone therapy, who were operated for thyroid cancer in distant postoperative periods. Material and methods. Sixty patients were examined in 7-10 years after total thyroidectomy. The structure and function of the capillaries was carried out using the MBC‑1 binocular microscope. Results. Structural changes in capillaries consisted in constriction or expansion of capillary loops, as well as in an increase in the number of open capillaries. Functional disorders were manifested by the presence of pericapillary edema, smoothing of the papillary layer, change in background. The revealed changes may indicate the prevalence of vasoconstrictive or vasodilative factors in the circulatory system and be a compensatory mechanism aimed to maintaining internal homeostasis. Conclusions. The revealed changes in the structure and function of capillaries may indicate a disorder of vascular regulation and be considered as a predictor of early development of cardiovascular disorders in such patients.
