Abstract

Patients with diabetes suffer 1.4-3 times more often from concomitant depression than those without diabetes. The presence of depression in diabetic patients is one of the causes of insufficient glycemic control. The effect of pregabalin has been studied in several studies and the use of the drug has shown a good therapeutic response in patients with depression and a minimal amount of side effects. These studies were conducted on patients without diabetes mellitus. Therefore, the aim of our study was to study the effect of the preparation pregabalin (Ogrania, capsules produced by Farmak (Ukraine)) on mild and moderate depressive disorders in patients with type 2 diabetes. Materials and methods. The study included 20 patients with type 2 diabetes with mild and moderate depressive disorders. Patients have been taking stable hypoglycemic therapy for the past 3 months. The mean age was 50.75±9.68 years. Evaluation of depressive manifestations was carried out using questionnaires: PHQ‑9, WHO and PAID. Assessment according to the questionnaires was carried out at the beginning of the study, 14 days after the start of the drug and at the end of the study. All patients taking part in the study received pregabalin (Ogrania) 150 mg twice daily for 30 days. Results. There was no significant difference in the assessment of the questionnaires in the dynamics of PHQ‑9, WHO and PAID.
However, there was a decrease in negative answers to the questions «daily life is of little interest and does not give pleasure» by 17.6%, «feeling of oppression, sadness and hopelessness» by 15.2%, «pine problems, frequent awakening or drowsiness» by 30.4%, «fatigue, weakness and lack of energy» by 44.6%. There was a significant decrease in the level of fasting glycemia after 1 month of taking pregabalin. Conclusions. It is necessary to carry out further studies to study the effect of pregabalin on the level of glycemia and on depressive disorders.
