Abstract

Age-related features of a child’s physical and mental development are a key reference point for clinical reasoning
and the basis for timely identification of developmental disorders. In the context of healthcare system reform in Ukraine, the
implementation of follow-up (catamnestic) monitoring, and the increasing perinatal risks associated with war, interdisciplinary
collaboration among family physicians, pediatricians, and child psychiatrists becomes particularly relevant.
Objective. To analyze the role of age-related features of a child’s physical and mental development as an interdisciplinary
foundation for collaboration among family physicians, pediatricians, and child psychiatrists, and to substantiate their importance
for early detection of developmental disorders, planning of catamnestic follow-up, and ensuring continuity of medical care for
children, particularly those with perinatal risk factors.
Materials and Methods. An analysis of more than 30 sources was conducted, including current regulatory and legal acts
of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, international clinical guidelines, recommendations of the World Health Organization, and
contemporary scientific publications addressing neurodevelopmental disorders, intellectual disability, and interdisciplinary
pediatric healthcare.
Results and discussion. Age-related norms of physical and mental development were shown to function as common
professional language for physicians of different specialties, ensuring continuity and consistency of medical care from the
neonatal period through adolescence. The significance of age-related developmental «red flags» as a tool for early identification
of neurodevelopmental and mental disorders was substantiated. Children with a burdened perinatal history, particularly in the
context of war, were identified as a high-risk group for developmental delay, requiring long-term catamnestic and multidisciplinary
follow-up. The roles of physical and somatic markers, as well as psychometric and adaptive assessments, in shaping a shared
clinical management strategy were analyzed.
Conclusions. Age-related features of physical and mental development serve not only as diagnostic criteria but also as an
integrative platform for interdisciplinary collaboration among family physicians, pediatricians, and child psychiatrists. Their systematic
application enables early detection of developmental disorders, timely involvement of specialized care, and improvement in the
quality of long-term medical follow-up for children, especially those with perinatal risk factors in wartime conditions.
