Abstract
Diagnostic criteria and management of clinical obesity are presented in the article, based on modern recommendations of the Commission of definition and diagnostic of obesity (2025), that have been endorsed by more than 76 organisations worldwide, including scientific societies and patient advocacy groups. A special attention is paid to the diagnostic methods of obesity, especially to the body roundness index (BRI). Advantages of BRI are presented in comparison with the traditional measurement of obesity – body mass index (BMI). Two new categories of obesity are suggested: pre-clinical and clinical. Two absolutely different strategies of clinical and pre-clinical obesity management are suggested by experts. Relevance and effectiveness of weight-loss medicines, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors agonists and the dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist are discussed in the article.
