Abstract

Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is an acute polyradiculoneuropathy characterized by the immune system’s attack on the peripheral nervous system, leading to demyelination or axonal damage. The primary symptoms include weakness in the lower limbs, which may spread to the upper limbs and diaphragm, sensory disturbances, and pain. GBS is often linked to bacterial and viral infections, including Campylobacter jejuni, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, and has been associated with Zika virus outbreaks. Diagnosis is based on progressive bilateral limb weakness, decreased reflexes, and symptom progression over a short period. The article presents a clinical case of moderate Guillain-Barré Syndrome, diagnosed based on clinical symptoms and electromyography (EMG) data in a woman with Epstein-Barr infection confirmed by PCR testing.
