Abstract

Introduction. Assessment of the quality of life (QL) in determining the strategy and tactics of management of pulmonary patients is an important tool of the practitioner. The aim is to assess the feasibility of assessing quality of life and using the St. George Respiratory Questionnaire SGRQ in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Materials and methods. A literature review with the bibliosemantic method was carried out in the Pubmed database, where over 500 sources were found for keywords «quality of life», «COPD», «SGRQ» and their combinations over the past 5 years, from which those relevant to the goal were selected. Quality of life according to the SGRQ was determined in 145 inpatients with COPD exacerbation, and its results were compared with the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and severity of anxiety and depression according to the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Digital data were processed statistically, correlation analysis was carried out according to Kendal. The results. According to the literature data, QL assessment is an important criterion for the state of patient’s health and its changes, it allows to determine the course of the COPD, the effectiveness of its therapy, ranging and grouping the patients with COPD, forming an individual rehabilitation plan and monitoring its implementation. The St. George questionnaire done for practical purpose. Our investigations show that total mark of QL in patients with exacerbation of COPD was 34.1%. It was slightly lower among women and significantly lower among patients-smokers. The total value of the QL was significantly correlated with the body mass index, the severity of COPD, with the development of arterial hypertension, the severity of depression, and levels
of parameters of the function of external respiration. Сonclusions. Determining the quality of life is an important criterion for the state of health and its changes, the effectiveness of treatment and rehabilitation. The St. George SGRQ questionnaire allows to define and to monitor the quality of life in patients with COPD.
