Abstract

For the purpose of diagnosis and prediction the course of cardiovascular diseases, in addition to the determination of cardiac troponins, new biomarkers of myocardial damage are increasingly used in cardiology practice, which detect the presence of ischemia, inflammatory activity, myocardial distention, and interstitial remodeling. The change in cardiovascular homeostasis in patients with acute myocardial infartion reflects an inflammatory reaction that occurs under conditions of hemodynamic stress; this is a basis of early and long-term postinfarction remodeling of the left ventricle. This article describes the role of NT-proBNP and ST2 biomarkers in risk stratification of cardiovascular complications in the postinfarction period.
