Abstract
Back pain affects 40 to 80% of the world's population. The basis for providing assistance to this category of patients is timely and correct identification of the cause of pain, which can be vertebral (primary lesions of the spine and spinal cord of various origins) and non-vertebral, associated with damage to internal organs, so-called referred pains, which are projected onto the dermatome innervated by the same segment of the spinal cord as the affected organ. In order to correctly diagnose the cause of the pain syndrome, it is necessary to widely use modern diagnostic methods (MRI, CT of the whole body), not limiting oneself only to neurological examination, taking into account the patient's age, the course history of the disease, and the presence or history of previously suffered illnesses.
