Abstract
The review article presents new data on metformin – one of the old drugs which property and safety are fairly well studied. To reduce the unwanted side effects of metformin a new drug prolonged form have been developed. It provides sustained release of active substances from tablets, so the absorption occurs along the entire length of the intestine that does not block the receptors for vitamin B12. This metformin (Diaformin® SR) compared to the more expensive drugs is not only similar in efficacy and bioavailability, but wins in the ratio of price/quality.
